Mica male, no?
E i rischi? Buona fortuna a tutti.

Staring at a blank white screen with that tiny “404 Not Found” text is enough to make anyone want to pull their hair out. It happens to the best of us. You try to visit a cool link and suddenly, boom, nothing is there. Most of the time this is because someone moved a file or deleted a page without setting up a proper redirect, leading to a dead end for everyone involved. For Nginx users, this error often feels a bit more clinical and cold than the ones you see on other platforms.
Did you know that roughly 42% of visitors will leave your site immediately if they hit a dead link? That is a huge chunk of potential readers down the drain just because of a simple typo. Back in January 2024, I spent nearly four hours chasing a ghost error on my own server. It turned out I had just forgotten a single semicolon in my location block. Talk about a facepalm moment. Have you ever felt that specific kind of frustration?
Fixing this mess requires you to look under the hood. You need to check your error logs usually found at /var/log/nginx/error.log because they tell the real story of what went sideways. Sometimes the https://prhub.it/ file permissions are just wonky. If the server cannot read the file, it will tell the world it is not there. But you can fix it by running a quick chmod command to get things back on track.
| Error Type | Nginx Frequency | Apache Frequency |
|---|---|---|
| 404 Not Found | 65% | 62% |
| 502 Bad Gateway | 12% | 4% |
| 403 Forbidden | 8% | 15% |
Your site visitors do not care about your technical hurdles. They just want their content. If you keep serving them broken pages, you are basically missing the boat on building a loyal audience. Nginx is super fast, yet it can be quite picky about how you set up your routes. Make sure your root directory is pointed at the right path so the server finds the files.
Why does it always happen on a Friday afternoon? It seems like web servers have a sense of humor. You think everything is fine, then someone pings you on Slack to say the homepage is gone. Don’t panic. Check your config, restart the service, and you will likely be back in business in under 15 minutes.
